As a provider of primary care services within the Mid Essex NHS region, Blandford Medical Centre is committed to delivering safe, effective, compassionate, and person-centred care in line with the standards set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We strive to meet the healthcare needs of our population while supporting continuous improvement, digital innovation, and the development of the future primary care workforce.
Our Mission
To provide high-quality, accessible, and equitable primary healthcare that supports the health and wellbeing of our community, delivered in a caring, inclusive, and respectful environment.
Our Vision
To be recognised as a leading, forward-thinking GP practice that champions patient-centred care, clinical excellence, and professional development, while fully integrating with regional NHS strategies and priorities.
Core Objectives
- To ensure the delivery of responsive, safe, and well-led care in line with CQC’s five key questions: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well-led.
- To empower patients through digital services such as the NHS App and AccuRx Triage, making healthcare more accessible and convenient.
- To maintain robust clinical governance, audit processes, and safeguarding practices that promote a culture of continuous quality improvement.
- To support equitable access, reducing health inequalities across diverse patient groups in Mid Essex.
- To foster a motivated and skilled workforce through training, leadership, and ongoing professional development.
Commitment to Medical Education and Training
As an approved GP training practice, we are dedicated to contributing to the development of the next generation of general practitioners. Our clinical team includes qualified GP trainers and educational supervisors who support foundation doctors, GP registrars, and medical students in a structured, supportive learning environment.
We view training as a vital part of ensuring the sustainability and quality of general practice. Trainees are actively involved in all aspects of patient care under appropriate supervision, bringing fresh insight and evidence-based approaches to the team. Our involvement in training also fosters a reflective culture of learning and improvement across the whole practice.
We work closely with local deaneries, Health Education England, and Mid Essex Integrated Care Board to ensure we meet all educational standards and provide a high-quality training experience.
Digital Access and Innovation
Our practice is committed to supporting NHS England’s digital-first strategy. We actively promote the use of the NHS App, which enables patients to:
- Book and manage appointments
- Order repeat prescriptions
- Access medical records and test results
- Receive secure, personalised health advice
We also use the AccuRx Triage system to improve patient access and efficiency. This digital platform allows patients to submit clinical and administrative queries online, enabling the practice to triage and respond promptly and appropriately.
Summary Care record
NHS England require practice to enable automated uploads of any changes to a patients summary information to the summary care record.
Having a summary care record (SCR) available will help anyone treating you who does not have access to your full record, for example, out of hours or A&E.
If you do not wish for your records to be available this way then you would need to advise us of your intention to opt out.
GP to GP records transfer
NHSE require practices to use the digital GP2GP facility for the transfer of patient records between practices when a patient registers or leaves a practice.
If you leave your GP and register with a new GP your records will be removed from your previous surgery and forwarded to your new surgery via NHS England. Paper records can take a few weeks to reach a new surgery.
Electronic transfer is via a secure NHS internet connection and is more rapid that paper transfer.
Data Protection and Patient Consent
We uphold the highest standards in data protection, in line with GDPR and NHS Digital guidance. Patients are informed about how their data is used and their rights to opt out of sharing beyond direct care. We are transparent, lawful, and ethical in all data handling processes.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Our practice is committed to delivering care that is inclusive and respectful of all individuals. We actively monitor and respond to the needs of vulnerable or underrepresented groups and take steps to reduce inequalities in health access and outcomes. We promote dignity, respect, and fairness in every aspect of our service.
Continuous Improvement and Collaboration
We regularly participate in quality improvement initiatives and engage with our Primary Care Network (PCN) and Mid & South Essex ICB to improve health outcomes at population level. Patient feedback, clinical audits, peer review, and team reflection all contribute to our ongoing development and delivery of safe, effective care.
